There is no better way to jumpstart August than to attend the opening of the tenth Cinemalaya film festival. Once again, as always, grandeur, elegance, and beauty filled the air. But of course, the highlight of the night is no less than the opening feature which is a documentary about being an
illegal alien undocumented citizen in the land of dreams, the United States of America. Documented was an honest and deeply moving account of the esteemed journalist Jose Antonio Vargas as he courageously stepped out of the closet and began to fight for his citizenship. Last night was easily one of the best nights of my 2014. It’s that time of the year again.
