Today was the Philippine release of the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s 1999 novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Months before, I became eager to read the book and eventually see the film after knowing that Logan Lerman was going to be the lead. Superficial as it may seem, reading the book and seeing the movie was mainly because of Logan. But as I delved into Chbosky’s literary masterpiece, I cannot help but be thankful I crossed paths with this marvel. I finished the novel and it became one of my favorites. Charlie became one of my most loved characters ever since. I was very excited to see the movie, and finally, this long-awaited moment came. Luckily, September 26 fell on a Wednesday, my free day this semester. It was quite nice to see that the producer, screenplay writer and director was the author himself. I felt confident that what I was going to see on screen was what he wanted me to see. It was beautiful, being as poignant as the book. As I sat there inside the theater, I felt as if I relived those beautiful hours I spent reading the novel. It was definitely a heartfelt and unforgettable movie date with everybody I needed- myself. And in that moment, I swear I was infinite.
